2015 has been a fantastic year for HoopAsylum. January marked our second return to Foot Locker EU’s “It Must Be Feb” campaign, which coincides with NBA London. During the event, we met Carmelo Anthony, Hakeem Olajuwon, John Henson, DJ Clark Kent, Grandmaster Flash and a few memorable faces from Foot Locker’s 2014 campaign.
Opportunities continued to blossom when HoopAsylum became the main videographer for the London Lions: London’s only professional basketball team.
After a successful regular season, the Lions continued to dominate with an impressive postseason run, even making it to the BBL Play-off Final at the O2. With a close connection to the team and an archive of footage already produced, HoopAsylum was in a strong position to assist mainstream media entities with in-game action to support their stories.
BBC London News (BBC1) featured a story on the Lions. The segment highlighted what it is like to be at a home game at the Copper Box Arena as well as what reaching the final meant to the team. The video featured in-game clips produced by HoopAsylum editor, Lewis Rose.
Several days later, BBC Sport created a feature for online purposes, entitled: BBL Final: Why is basketball so popular in the UK? This video featured an even longer segment of HoopAsylum footage (2:10-2:25 and 2:34-2:42) in the previously hyperlinked video.
When the stage was finally set, HoopAsylum attended the BBL Play-off Final to record exclusive footage for the BBL.
A London Lions video advertisement was also produced by HoopAsylum prior to the Final, which was played on the large screens above the court in between timeouts at the O2 Arena.
The BBL’s season is over but HoopAsylum’s isn’t just yet. On May 23rd, we will be recording at the Hoopsfix All Star Classic and on September 12-13, HoopAsylum is the official media partner of the World Club Basketball Tournament Bexhill Giants.
A huge thanks to all of the supporters and press opportunities in 2015. At HoopAsylum, we will continue to promote the sport of basketball across the United Kingdom and throughout the world. Stay tuned and keep hoopin’!
