During last night’s Thunder-Suns Matchup, the Inside The NBA on TNT Crew discussed Earl Lloyd‘s passing. They replaced the usual halftime analysis with an emotional video. The video highlighted Lloyd’s career and his accomplishments as the first African American player in the NBA. His career included an NBA championship with Syracuse Nats and being named to the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2003.
The Crew got emotional, particularly Charles Barkley, who watched a video interview of Lloyd talking about him back in 2000. After fighting back tears, Barkley mentioned the additional amount of respect he has for Lloyd. Barkley highlighted the difficulties of fighting against racial prejudices during an already stressful NBA schedule.
Baseball has Jackie Robinson, and the NBA has Earl Lloyd: A pioneer; a barrier breaker; and a true legend.
